Penelope Weiss began her editorial career at Doubleday, where she studied editing under some of the best editors in the book publishing field. She later became an editor at Grove Press, where, among other books, she edited a book by Reginald McGhee about James Van Der Zee, an African-American photographer who was active in the first half of the 20th century. She then went on to freelance for many book publishers; among other books, she edited Timothy Leary’s Jail Notes.

In the '80s and the early '90s she was the Managing Editor of several monthly magazines at General Media, including Longevity, a health and lifestyles monthly. In the mid-1990s she moved to Forbes magazine, where she became the co-manager of the copy desk. As well as editing and copyediting, Penelope also writes fiction. In the winter of 2010, Storiana, a collection of her short stories, will be published by Casa de Snapdragon Press.
